What Is Windows Sandbox?

Windows Sandbox is a built-in feature (available in Windows 10/11 Pro and Enterprise) that lets you run apps in a temporary, isolated environment. Think of it like a disposable Windows - whatever happens inside stays inside, and it all disappears when you close it.

How to Turn It On

• Open Start Menu and search for “Windows Features”
• Click “Turn Windows features on or off”
• Scroll down and check “Windows Sandbox”
• Click OK and restart your computer
• After reboot, search for “Windows Sandbox” in the Start Menu and launch it

Note: You need Windows 10/11 Pro or Enterprise, and virtualization must be enabled in your BIOS (it usually is).

Why It’s Useful

• Safe testing: Open unknown files or apps without risking your real system.
• No leftovers: Everything resets when you close it - no viruses, no junk.
• No setup: It’s ready to go with a clean Windows image every time.

What Does It Do

• It isolates everything you do inside it from your main system. Apps, files, and changes stay locked in the sandbox.
• It has no access to the rest of your files and programs, it's a boxed environment
• It has internet access by default, so you can test web-based tools or downloads (unless you block it manually).

What It Doesn't Do

• It won’t warn you if an app is secretly leaking data.
• It doesn’t monitor what an app is doing behind the scenes.
• You’ll need antivirus or monitoring tools inside the sandbox if you want deeper insight (Windows defender is installed by default).

Final Tip

Windows Sandbox is great for peace of mind. If you’re ever unsure about a file, run it in the sandbox first. It’s like having a digital crash helmet - you hope you don’t need it, but you’ll be glad it’s there.

Automating Daily Backups to OneDrive with a Simple Batch File

As a small business owner or freelancer, backing up your files shouldn't be a chore. Here's how to automate daily backups to OneDrive using a batch file and Windows Task Scheduler.

What does the batch file do?

Create a new file and call it something like "backup.bat"

Type in the following code, using the actual paths where your files and folders reside.

xcopy C:\Businessdocs\*.* C:\Users\UserName\OneDrive\Businessdocs\*.* /s /d /y

• xcopy: Copies files and folders
• /s: Includes subdirectories (except empty ones)
• /d: Only copies files that are newer than the destination version
• /y: Suppresses confirmation prompts when overwriting files

Tip: Instead of copying to OneDrive, you can also copy to another drive, for example a USB stick or a Network drive.

How to schedule it with Task Scheduler

1. Open Task Scheduler (Windows + S → “Task Scheduler”)
2. Click “Create Task…”
3. Name your task, e.g. Backup to OneDrive
4. Go to the Triggers tab → click New
   • Choose Daily
   • Set the time (e.g. 5:30 PM)
5. Go to the Actions tab → click New
   • Action: Start a program
   • Program/script: C:\Path\to\your\backup.bat
6. Optionally adjust Conditions (e.g. “Run only if computer is idle”)
7. Click OK and test the task manually

Bonus tips

• Make sure OneDrive is running and syncing
• Add logging to your batch file:

  xcopy ... >> C:\Logs\backup_log.txt

• Use consistent folder structures so the script is easy to reuse or teach
